How To Pass A Test examines the impact of the over-emphasis on standardised testing in education. In recent decades western developed nations have adopted the market model for education reform whereby education has been considered a commodity rather than a public good. Using this model market stereotypes have been applied to measure success in education. When NAPLAN testing was introduced in Australia the high stakes associated with the My School website and the resulting league tables led to the unintended but entirely predictable consequences of teaching to the test and narrowing of the curriculum.
In her book Lynne discusses how children learn and clarifies the roles of teachers and parents. She examines the policies of highly successful education systems such as that of Finland and advocates Australia adopt identified successful elements of other education systems and take a new approach to our direction in education.
